Waiting Songs!
My mind is sitting on the theme of waiting. It is having a hard time moving away from that. As someone with a mind that moves quickly and stays busy, it also spends lots of time waiting on the things that don't move as quickly.
Right now, I am waiting on so many things! I am waiting for surgery dates, and recovery of loved ones. I am waiting to see if there will be positive or negative results for some parts of my life. I am waiting on time for healing, learning, and growing. I am wondering if hard work will prove good in the long run. I am waiting for details to come together. I am waiting on exciting things too, like new music and safer days in the forest (bears are in full force right now).
I know I am not alone in waiting, nor am I the only one that has a hard time being patient. I deal with anxiety, and waiting makes me crazy!
Hearing that Rivers of NIhil is coming out with a new album just put my anticipation anxiety into overdrive! The news solidified the fact that I needed to write this blog.
So, here it is: Songs for waiting! If you are anxiously waiting for something, hang in there!
Pain of Salvation - Wait
This was my favourite song from the new album, Panther. I like the sound of it, and the words work for these anxious moments.
Wait another day
Wait another night
Just wait another week
Just wait another month
Just wait another year
For me to become I
For things to become right
While life will pass you by
Katatonia - The Longest Year
This song makes me think of when you are waiting on things that are very uncertain. You try to not think about it, but it keeps coming back. Almost like a flame that wasn't quite put out.
Find the one
This weight will hold me down
How cold is the sun
I can see fire
When I fall behind (fall behind)
When I give up
My thoughts redefined
How cold is the flame
Of our uncompromising future
How cold is the sun
Rivers of Nihil - Subtle Change (Including the Forest of Transition and Dissatisfaction Dance)
This highlights the things in life that change, and you really can't do anything about it. You are a part of it and sometimes your course is dependant on other things you have to just wait for.
Can you explain
This subtle change
That dull, sweet ache
That takes my mind
To a place where nothing can see
Dissatisfied, as you drift back to what you were
Before, before you came here
I'm losing some pieces, here at the end
And I can't find exactly where I came in
Cobalt - Final Will
I think this song is trying to move forward from the past, but sometimes there is a lot of time you have to invest into this.
The fields of time are burning
Shield our eyes from burning
The past in a pile of ash forgotten in the cycle
Erased in a pile of ash the burden in the cycle
For animal blood and bone
For animal blood and skin
Aetherian - As Seasons Pass
I think this is trying to hold on to yourself amidst things you can't control.
As time goes by
Lifetime of lies
Standing strong
In a neverending war
Wherever my path may lead
Among the clouds my spirit will be free
Archspire - A Dark Horizontal
Though this is presented in a very fictional way, I think it speaks to the idea that you have unknowns ahead, and sometimes when you are waiting, the anticipation makes it seem worse. Your mind has already run through it a thousand times by the time you get there.
The dark horizontal
Ahead, a panting land approaches
Flaring vibrant coastal glimmers
Mend the distant fraying seams
Of a violent waters restless bedding
Panic indented in the floating web of wicked mental horrors
Thought up by the crew's subconscious fears
Come alive to haunt and drain us
The dark horizontal
Ahead, a panting land approaches
Flaring vibrant coastal glimmers
Mend the distant fraying seams
Of a violent waters restless bedding
Panic indented in the floating web of wicked mental horrors
Thought up by the crew's subconscious fears
Come alive to haunt and drain us
Mastodon - Oblivion
This makes me picture being burnt up by the sun as you wait for too long!
Burning all the gold that held me inside my shell
Waiting for you to pull me back in
I almost sat the world in my sights
Fallen from grace cause I been away too long
Leaving you behind with my lonesome song
Now I'm lost in oblivion
Daylight Dies - I Wait
Do you ever feel like there is something heavy on your mind you are waiting for? I think it is sometimes stress and anxiety that builds up and feels like weight.
My days a dull aching
Please tell me what
I'm waiting for
All my days are fading into one
All my days are fading
All my days are fading into one
All my days are fading away
Demon Hunter - In Time
This song seems like it is taking some responsibility for what you can. Do what you can, and remember which parts are out of your hand.
In time
We will erase it all
In time
We are the fault of our own fall
Don't let them tear it from your hands
In time
We will erase it all
In time
We are the fault of our own fall
Infected Rain - Stop Waiting
This speaks to the anxiety that can build when we are waiting on things or other people. It is encouraging us to do what we can, and look after ourselves.
Waiting for someone to save us
Waiting for something to change
Waiting someone to forgive us
Waiting and swallowing the rage
Days keep passing in breathless expectation
Fear had taken the best of us
Here we are again, expecting a salvation
Waiting for someone to be sorry for us
