I like how this band releases singles and keeps me wondering what they will do next. It sounds like they want to do what they want to do and aren't going to be held to anything specific. I like the attitude of doing what is true to you as a band. It is their journey, after all, and we are just invited a long.

Vocals

I think Courtney is an amazing vocalist. One that I will never be able to be even close to, but in this song she feels very poppy. She is doing an energetic sound to her voice that sounds kinda upbeat at times. Put this vocal with pop sounding music and you have a pop song. I think I would prefer this song with someone else singing, or if she would have done some screaming to add some harshness. My mom was in the room when I was listening to this song and she kinda liked it... So that is a bad sign... (She doesn't like metal.)

Music

I like the guitar parts. It makes it feel haunting, the way this band likes to give off that vibe. Clearly, a very talented guitarist. The way the song adds some sounds and fades out at the end makes sense with the theme. It has a catchiness to it, overall.

Lyrics

I like that this song went to this topic. It is obviously very heartfelt. It is talking about someone who is losing their memories and sense of themselves. I like the reference to a coup. It is a clever illustration of how dementia takes over.

I can only imagine what it must be like to be in a situation where you are losing your memory. My aunt that I have been close to for years, who is way too young to have dementia, has developed a rare form of the disease where she is sometimes lucid, and sometimes not. It is so hard on her because she is devastated when she comes back to reality and discovers what she had been fighting or not understanding, that she lost her ability to drive, or to care for herself. She cries, and has lost any sense of herself. She means the world to my family, regardless. Her journey is not easy!

It's hard to lose and wonder why

You pressure in increments
Like a slow-moving coup
Memories dissident
When I am holding you

If my sun won't set tonight
I'll look around, but it's so hard for me
Like a shadow passing by
Crashing into shapes and then fading with my innocence
